<h3>About Roots Music Canada</h3>

Roots Music Canada is Canada’s online home for all things Canadian
folk, roots and world music.
 
 
Originally founded in 2009 by Andy Frank and David Newland,
it was relaunched in 2018 by Canadian veteran roots marketer Heather Kitching
with one purpose in mind: to unite artists
and fans of Canadian roots music in a climate where mainstream media are shutting
down, shrinking their publications and eliminating coverage of folk/world/roots
music.
 
 
We publish at least six days a week, sharing stories about
new music, industry trends and happenings in the Canadian folk, roots and world
scenes – helping artists and labels get the word out about their projects and
helping fans stay on top of what’s going on. 
We also write about creative life, trends in the music business, and
other topics of note to our community. We cover all kinds of roots music, including
traditional music and music by older artists. We don’t care if it’s cool. We care
if it’s good. 
 
 

But we need your help to continue this work. 
 
We can’t run on volunteer power alone. Roots Music Canada already died once in 2014
due to the lack of sustainability involved in having an all-volunteer crew.
 
 
We run on the same business model many folk clubs and folk
festivals run on: volunteers continue to
make the magic happen, but we raise funds to cover the site’s overhead and pay
our managing editor a small stipend to stay on top of the essential work. 
 
 
That’s where you come in.

An important note about patron perks</h3>
 
You might be wondering why you no longer see our patron
perks listed in tier boxes on our page. Fear not! 
We still provide them. (Scroll down for more details!) The reason we don’t
publish them in tier boxes any more is this: several governments, including those
of most US states, several European nations, and the province of Quebec, have
begun charging sales tax on Patreon contributions that provide regular rewards
such as exclusive content. They use Patreon’s tier system to calculate
tax. We respectfully disagree with these jurisdictions that ANY patronage of an artist or arts project constitutes a fee for service. We do not wish to collect
information from our patrons in a way that is provided to governments for the purpose
of charging tax on contributions, nor do we wish to participate in this system
when governments may, at some future date, change their policies again to
attempt to charge tax on the contributions you provide for us. 
 
 We continue to provide perks for different levels of patronage as we always have. We consider these mere tokens of our gratitude for
your generous support. 
 
 
<h3>Patron Perks:</h3>
 Individual patron: $5
 
Patronize us at this level and receive a thank you card and
a handful of Roots Music Canada stickers. Also, artists we can bulk-import your concert
listings from your Facebook events page.
 Individual superstar: 
$15
 Patronize us at this level and receive a thank you card, a
handful of Roots Music Canada stickers AND a Gordy the Moose coffee mug for
your home office or studio. Also, artists we can bulk-import your concert listings from your
Facebook events page.
 
Organizational patron: 
$25
 
This patronage level is for labels, publicists and management
companies working with multiple artists. 
Patronize us at this level and you’ll get your own login and posting
privileges on the site with the right to post up to 12 times per year. Also, we will bulk import your event listings
into our events calendar from your Facebook events page. (Scroll down for the fine print)
 
Industry patron: $25
 This patronage level is for industry orgnizations who want
to contribute to Roots Music Canada in exchange for the support that we provide
to their membership. Patronize us at
this level and your support will be recognized with a logo at the bottom of our
page. You will also get your own login
and posting privileges on the site with the right to post up to 6 times per
year. And we will bulk import your event
listings into our events calendar from your Facebook events page. (Scroll down for the fine print)
 
Organizational patron: $100
 
This patronage level is for labels, publicists and management
companies working with multiple artists. 
Patronize us at this level and you’ll get your own login and posting
privileges on the site with the right to post an unlimited number of times per
year. Also, we will bulk import your
event listings into our events calendar from your Facebook events page. (Scroll down for the fine print)
 
 
The fine print:

	<li>Patron posts are edited for spelling, grammar,
and conformity to Roots Music Canada style. We reserve the right to reject
posts containing offensive content or content that is otherwise unsuitable for
the website, such as stories that have little to do with Canadian folk, roots
and world music.

	<li>Individual patron perks – except for stickers –
will be shipped after three consecutive months of patronage. 
	</li>
